How it works

Pip value = Pip size × Units × (Quote → account conversion rate) Pip size = 0.0001 (0.01 for JPY-quoted pairs)
Worked example

For one standard lot (100,000 units) of EUR/USD in a USD account, the pip value is 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10.00. For USD/JPY the pip size is 0.01, so the JPY pip value is converted to dollars at the live USD/JPY rate.

FAQ

A pip is the standard unit of price movement in forex: 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for pairs quoted in Japanese yen. If EUR/USD moves from 1.0840 to 1.0841, it has moved one pip.
Yen-quoted pairs are priced with two decimal places instead of four, so one pip is 0.01. The resulting pip value is in yen and is converted into your account currency at the live rate, which is why it changes throughout the day.
Yes. The pip value is first computed in the pair’s quote currency, then converted into your account currency at the live market rate. A EUR-denominated account sees different dollar-pair pip values than a USD account.
Multiply the pip value at your position size by your stop-loss distance in pips to get the money at risk on the trade. Pairing this with a fixed risk percentage is the basis of position sizing.
The result also shows the cash value of 10-, 50- and 100-pip moves at your entered size, so you can map a target or stop into money at a glance.
Yes. The majors table is server-rendered from the same live rates the calculator uses and stays in the page HTML for crawlers.
Pip value tells you what one pip is worth at a given size. Position size works backwards from a risk amount and stop distance to recommend the size. Use both: this tool to understand the pair, then position size to trade it.
