Australia’s goods imports dropped 1.3% mom to a three-month low of AUD 38.71 billion in July 2025, after a downwardly revised 1.5% decline in the previous month, amid sluggish domestic demand and worries over global trade disruptions from U.S. tariffs. Purchases of consumption goods fell 2.6% to AUD 12.03 billion, weighed down by declines in goods n.e.s. (-3.4%), textiles, clothing, and footwear (-4.5%), and food and beverages (-1.0%). Also, imports of non-monetary gold slumped 30.5% to AUD 1.36 billion. In contrast, arrivals of intermediate and other merchandise goods rose 1.1% to AUD 15.55 billion, driven by higher arrivals of fuel and lubricants (8.4%), processed industrial supplies n.e.s. (1.8%), other parts for capital goods (1.7%), and organic and inorganic chemicals (4.2%). Meanwhile, capital goods imports increased 2.6% to AUD 9.77 billion, supported by machinery and industrial equipment (5.9%), industrial transport equipment n.e.s. (6.2%), and capital goods n.e.s. (5.0%).
