Employment was mostly flat in May, rising by just 8,800 jobs, as gains in full-time work (+58,000) were offset by losses in part-time jobs (-49,000). Since January, job growth has stalled after strong gains late last year. Among core-aged adults (25–54), employment rose for women (+42,000) but fell for men (-31,000). There was little change for youth and seniors. Job increases were seen in wholesale/retail trade, recreation, finance, and utilities, while losses occurred in public administration, food services, transportation, and support services. Regionally, jobs rose in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, but declined in Quebec, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island, with little change elsewhere.
