Colombia’s trade deficit widened to $1.776 billion in May 2025, up from $1.084 billion a year earlier, marking the largest shortfall since October 2022. Imports rose 10.8% year-on-year to $6.135 billion, driven by a 14.1% increase in purchases of manufactured goods. In contrast, exports slipped 2.1% to $4.358 billion, mainly due to an 18.7% drop in fuel and extractive industry shipments. Global trade conditions remain pressured by external factors, including the US’s new tariff policy, which is expected to maintain a 10% rate on Colombian imports.
