Croatia’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 1.4 billion in May 2025 from EUR 2.0 billion in the same month last year, according to preliminary data. The improvement was largely driven by a sharp contraction in imports, which fell 14.4% year-on-year to EUR 3.5 billion, while exports inched up 0.4% to EUR 2.0 billion. For the January–May period, the trade gap narrowed to EUR 8.0 billion, compared to EUR 8.4 billion during the same period in 2024. Exports rose 5.4% to EUR 10.2 billion, supported by stronger demand from both EU countries (5.9%) and non-EU countries (4.1%). Imports edged up 0.7% to EUR 18.2 billion, driven by a surge in purchases from non-EU countries (13.2%), while imports from EU countries declined (-2.7%).
