Ecuador’s trade surplus narrowed to $498.35 million in May 2025 from $558.62 million a year earlier, marking the 19th consecutive monthly surplus. Exports rose 8.3% to $3,294.4 million, driven by bananas (+28.4%), shrimp (+18.2%), and cocoa and derivatives (+41.6%), while oil exports dropped 33.2% to $606 million. Coffee (-11.6%) and tuna and fish (-7%) exports also declined. Imports rose 12.5% to $2,796 million, partially offsetting export gains. Import growth was led by consumer goods (+19.8%), raw materials (+24.9%), and capital goods (+12.6%).
