The trade deficit in Greece narrowed to EUR 2.1 billion in August 2025 from EUR 2.6 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, as imports fell more than exports. This marked the smallest trade gap since May 2021 as imports dropped by 13% year-on-year to EUR 5.5 billion, weighed down by reduced purchases from both the EU (-2.4%) and non-EU countries (-22.6%). Meanwhile, exports decreased by 8.9% to EUR 3.4 billion amid sharp declines in sales to both the EU (-7.7%) and non-EU countries (-10.3%). Considering January-August, the country’s trade gap narrowed to EUR 21.7 billion from EUR 22.2 billion in the same period last year.
