Food prices in Malaysia rose 1.5% year-on-year in October 2025, moderating from a 2.1% increase in the previous month and marking the mildest pace since August 2021. Prices of food away from home eased sharply (2.9% vs 4.4% in September) while the cost of food at home was unchanged for the second month in a row. At the same time, prices declined further for cereals and cereal products (-0.5% vs -0.6%), meat (-0.7% vs -0.1%), and vegetables (-6.0% vs -5.5%). Conversely, inflation accelerated for fish and other seafood (1.7% vs 1.5%), oils and fats (1.5% vs 1.3%), and sugar, confectionery, and desserts (0.9% vs 0.7%). Prices of milk, dairy products, and eggs picked up (0.6% vs flat reading) while those of fruits and nuts rebounded (1.0% vs -0.1%).
