Moldova’s trade deficit widened to a record USD 659.1 million in March 2025 from USD 459.1 million in the same month of the previous year, as exports dropped while imports rose. Year-on-year, exports dropped by 6.6% to USD 299.1 million, due to lower sales to CIS (-14.6%) and EU countries (-9.1%). Shipments to other countries rose by 1%. Meanwhile, imports climbed by 22.9% to USD 958.2 million, driven by increased purchases from EU countries (45.5%) and from other countries (5.6%). However, arrivals from CIS countries declined by 25.1%. For the first three months of the year, the country’s trade gap increased to USD 1,737.6 million from USD 1,233.5 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
