The Netherlands’ trade surplus narrowed to EUR 10.92 billion in February 2025 from EUR 11.78 billion a year earlier. Imports rose 3.3% year-on-year to EUR 56.24 billion, driven by increased purchases from both EU countries (+2.6%) and non-EU countries (+3.9%). Notable import gains were seen in food and live animals (+14.8%), raw materials (+12.5%), and miscellaneous manufactured goods (+6.4%). Meanwhile, exports grew at a slower pace of 2.9% to EUR 67.16 billion, with sales rising to both EU countries (+2.7%) and non-EU countries (+3.1%). Export growth was particularly strong in chemical products (+10.2%), food and live animals (+9.3%), and beverages and tobacco (+7.6%). For the first two months of the year, the trade surplus fell to EUR 22.31 billion from EUR 25.04 billion in the same period last year.
