The annual inflation rate in Spain eased for the second month to 2.2% in April 2025, the softest in six months, though slightly above market estimates of 2%, preliminary estimates showed. The slowdown is largely attributed to a drop in gas prices, in contrast to the increase seen in April 2024, as well as a sharper decline in electricity prices compared to the same month last year. Lower prices for fuel and lubricants for personal vehicles also contributed, reversing the rise recorded in April 2024. On the other hand, prices for leisure and culture saw a notable increase, after having declined in the same month last year. The core rate, excluding volatile items like food and energy, was 2.4% in April, rising from 2% in the prior month. Compared to the previous month, the CPI rose by 0.6%, after a 0.1% increase in March. Considering the EU-harmonised, the CPI rose 2.2% on the year, above market forecasts of 2% and 0.6% on the month, while analysts had expected a 0.4% increase.
