Sri Lanka’s trade deficit narrowed to USD 580.0 million in July 2025 from USD 603.8 million a year earlier. Exports rose 15.2% year-on-year to USD 1.30 billion, supported by broad-based gains across most product categories, including agricultural products (+17.1%)—led by a 13.1% surge in tea—industrial products (+14.4%), and mineral products (+2.1%). Imports increased 8.5% to USD 1.88 billion, driven by consumer goods (+48.5%), particularly non-food consumer goods with a 112.2% jump, along with investment and other goods (+18.9%). These increases were partially offset by a decline in intermediate goods (-6.9%).
