Nonresidential construction spending fell 0.5%, with religious buildings seeing the sharpest drop at 2.6%. Meanwhile, public spending edged up 0.4%, driven by a 0.5% increase in the nonresidential sector, primarily commercial (+3.8%), healthcare (+3.3%) and office (+1.2%). The residential segment, however, recorded a 0.6% fall. On a yearly basis, construction spending shrank by 0.5% in April.
