US import prices were unchanged from the previous month in May of 2025, holding the 0.1% increase from the previous month and contrasting with market expectations of that they would drop by 0.2%. The resilience in import costs suggested that foreign firms refrained from lowering their selling prices to counter the impact of aggressive tariffs that US consumers must face. Import prices for non-fuel goods rose by 0.3%, extending the 0.4% increase from the previous month, which was the sharpest increase in one year. Conversely, import costs for fuel goods slumped by 4% amid the decline in crude oil benchmarks. In turn, import prices were 0.2% higher from the previous year.
