Vietnam's trade surplus declined to USD 1.63 billion in goods for March 2025, down from a USD 2.78 billion surplus in the same month last year, as exports grew less than imports. Exports increased by 14.5% yoy to a record high of USD 38.51 billion, while imports rose 19.0% to a record peak of USD 36.88 billion. For the first quarter of 2025, the country registered a USD 3.16 billion surplus, narrowing from USD 7.7 billion in the same period of 2024, with exports and imports advancing by 10.6% and 17.0%, respectively. During this period, total shipments of processed industrial goods reached USD 90.92 billion, accounting for 88.4% of total exports. Imports of production materials totaled USD 93.51 billion, representing 93.8% of total imports. The US was Vietnam's largest export market, with a turnover of USD 31.1 billion, while China was the country's largest import market, with a turnover of USD 38.1 billion.
