Brazil’s economy added 257,528 formal jobs in April 2025, well above market expectations of 175,000 and up from 71,576 in March. It was the strongest April result since 2020, when the current historical series began, and represents a 7.35% increase over April 2024. The services sector led job creation with 136,109 positions, followed by commerce (+48,040), industry (+35,068), and construction (+34,295). Agriculture was the only sector to decline, shedding 4,025 jobs. All states recorded employment gains, with São Paulo (+72,283), Minas Gerais (+29,083), and Rio de Janeiro (+20,031) leading. Additionally, the average real wage in April rose to BRL 2,251.81, a BRL 15.96 increase from the previous month.
