Germany's consumer price inflation eased for a second consecutive month to 2.1% in April 2025, the lowest since October 2024, though it remained slightly above market forecasts of 2.0%, according to a preliminary estimate. Inflation in goods slowed sharply to 0.5% from 1.0% in March, driven by a steep drop in energy prices (-5.4% vs. -2.8%) and a softer rise in food costs (2.8% vs. 3.0%). In contrast, services inflation accelerated to a three-month high of 3.9% from 3.5%, while core inflation—which excludes energy and food—rose to 2.9% from a more than three-year low of 2.6% in March. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.4%, following a 0.3% rise in the previous month.
