Mexico recorded a $2.4 billion trade deficit in September 2025, the highest this year and above $1.5 billion gap a year earlier and market forecasts of $1.3 billion gap. Imports surged 15.2% from the previous year to $58.9 billion amid a 19.6% jump in intermediate goods to $45.5 billion. Consumer goods imports rose 5.6% to $8.8 billion, while capital goods purchases fell 3.2% to $4.6 billion. In the meantime, exports increased 13.8% to $56.5 billion, as extractive industry shipments rose to $1.2 billion. Manufacturing exports grew 15.7% to $52.4 billion, offsetting declines in agriculture (-14.5% to $1.3 billion) and oil (-11.8% to $1.7 billion). Exports to the US were 12.4% higher despite the higher tariffs on Mexican goods and a 7.2% drop in auto exports. Consequently, auto exports to the rest of the world soared by 51.2%.
