Industrial production in the UK rose by 1.5% month-over-month in February 2025, defying market expectations of a flat reading and rebounding from a downwardly revised 0.5% fall in the previous month. This marked the strongest growth in industrial activity since June 2023, as output recovered for manufacturing (2.2% vs -1% in January) and electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (2% vs -1.1%). On the other hand, output contracted for mining and quarrying (-3% vs 0.8%) while it eased for water supply, sewerage and waste management (1.1% vs 2.6%). On a yearly basis, industrial production increased 0.1% in February 2025, defying market forecasts of 2.3% drop and rebounding from a downwardly revised 0.5% fall in the previous month.
